Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon - Chile | |
| Background
& History
At an elevation of nearly 1000 feet, only a few miles from the cool Pacific Ocean, Vina Los Vascos has a priviledge and unique position amongst the Chilean vineyards. For over two centuries, the Eyzaguirre/Echenique family has owned this land and has produced wines of great quality which were mainly drunk by the family until recent years. |

|
| In order to help them realise the full
potential of Vina Los Vascos and to take advantage of the rapidly
growing interest in the wines of Chile the Eyzaguirre/Echenique have
recently created a partnership with the Rothschilds of Lafite.
The two families have the same passion for great wines and their ambition is to further increase the quality of production. In order to achieve this, a very important investment programme has been undertaken and should rapidly bear fruit.

Wine Making
Since Los Vascos is in the Southern Hemisphere, the harvest take place in March and this allows the teams from Domaines Rothschild to bring their constant support during the picking and vinification time. The newly acquired stainless steel vats, and also the best new presses and new barriques will allow the winemakers to extract the best possible wines from the high quality grapes harvested. The wines are fermented at controlled temperature and aged partly in barrels and partly in wood and cement vats. The property produces both Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. All the production is estate bottled.

| Viticulture
The vineyard of 500 acres has an average age of vines close to 30 years and is close planted to increase competition and ensure more concentrated fruit. Since phylloxera is not prevelent in Chile there is not grafting. The property has 75% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Chardonnay. The agriculture methods are very traditional and very little fertilizer is used, in order to achieve the low yields necessary for high quality wines.
