The 1998
vintage was suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, with the resulting wine
showing a deep red with bright purple hues. The bouquet is distinctively
Cabernet Sauvignon, showing lovely blackberry fruit characters. There is
just a hint of new French oak that adds a seductive indication of the
complexity to come. The palate shows rich berry fruit as the highlight.
Subtle French Oak maturation has added a layer of complexity giving a
gentile touch of vanilla on the finish. Firm soft tannins add to the
structure and weight of the wine and it will definately benefit from
medium term cellaring.
Kingston Estate Wines
Kingston Estate is a family
owned and operated winery based in the Riverland Region of South
Australia. It has rapidly built a reputation as a producer of award
winning white and red table wines in both Australian and International
markets - A reputation built on quality without compromise. Bill
Moularadellis has to be one of the hardest working people in the
Australia wine industry. Since graduating from Roseworthy in 1985, Bill
has set about building a state-of-the-art winemaking facility in the
South Australian Riverland. Continually improving the quality of the
wines produced has meant a significant investment in the latest
technology and in developing relationships with local growers to ensure
excellence at every stage of the winemaking process. The results speak
for themselves, with Kingston Estates reserve range taking out numerous
awards. Perhaps Bill's greatest achievement though has been to
dramatically lift the profile and perceived quality of Riverland wines.
This has involved not only good winemaking, but excellent marketing of
both his 'Kingston Estate' and 'Kingston Reserve' range - truly a worthy
winner of the 1994 South Australian Small Business of the Year award.
Product Range:
Verdelho, Chardonnay, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot; Tessera (Cabernet blend), Sarantos (Soft Press
Chardonnay); Special Releases of Saprian NV, Durif, Zinfandel and

Riverland - South Australia
Back in the 1880s, the South
Australian Government contracted the Chaffey brothers, successful irrigation
specialists, to develop such a scheme along the course of the Murray River in
the state. The subsequent canals and channels brought new life to the area,
providing the water needed to harness the growing potential of the rich alluvial
soil.
With the addition of this magic ingredient, the region began producing high
quality citrus and stone fruit crops. Grape growing and winemaking spread
quickly throughout the region and by the turn of the century, the South
Australian Riverland had become a substantial contributor to the nation's
vintage. Today it is the fruit citrus and stone fruit growing capital of
Australia, as well as being Australia's largest wine growing region.
Angoves was the first established
winery in the region in 1910, producing a wide array of products, that included
the famous St Agnes brandies. The Berri/Renmano Wineries, now under the control
of BRL Hardy, have been joined in the area by the other large national
companies, Southcorp, Orlando Wyndham and Yalumba.
Aside from the large national
companies, the area is home to large numbers of individual grapegrowers, who
migrated to the area with government assistance after both World Wars. European
immigrants brought with them an understanding of wine and an ethic of hard work.
These immigrants included the likes of the Moularadellis family, whose Kingston
Estate is a premium wine success story expanding from a 60 tonne crush in 1986
to a current annual crush of around 20,000 tonne, winning many trophies and
accolades over the years.
